„Über den Strukturalismus hinaus“ – Briefe an Eugenio Coseriu und die Geschichte der Linguistik im 20. Jahrhundert

Zusammenfassung

Eugenio Coseriu (1921-2002) war einer der bedeutendsten und einflussreichsten Romanisten und Linguisten des 20. Jahrhunderts. Er hinterliess hunderte unveröffentlichter Manuskripte und eine Sammlung von etwa 20.000 Briefen von Linguisten und sonstigen Intellektuellen. Das Projekt hat zum Ziel, einen Teil der Briefkorrespondenz online zu veröffentlichen und im Zusammenhang mit der Geschichte der (v.a. romanistischen) Linguistik darzustellen.

Es wird einerseits darum gehen, die Briefe zu transkribieren und online zu publizieren, wobei versucht werden wird, soweit noch vorhanden auch die Gegenbriefe und somit die gesamten Briefwechsel zu präsentieren. Anderseits sollen vier thematische Komplexe im Zusammenhang mit Briefen und Manuskripten vertieft untersucht und in den Kontext der Sprachwissenschaftsgeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts gestellt werden:

• die Konzeption der „Norm“, wie sie 1952 in Sistema, norma y habla präsentiert wurde, einschliesslich der in dem unveröffentlichten Manuskript La corrección idiomática diskutierten Frage der Standardsprache und von deren Lehre,
• die Frage der Pragmatik und der Textlinguistik im Rahmen einer „integralen Linguistik“, die über den Strukturalismus hinausweist und u.a. in dem Aufsatz „Determinación y entorno“ von 1955-56 präsentiert wurde,
• die u.a. in dem Buch Sincronía, diacronía e historia (1958) vertretene Auffassung des Sprachwandels,
• Die Frage der sprachlichen Variation und der Varietäten, wie sie u.a. in La geografía lingüística (1955) skizziert und dann in späteren Arbeiten wiederaufgenommen wird.

Das Projekt verspricht neben dem Zugang auf das umfassende primäre Datenmaterial der Briefe neue wissenschaftshistorische Einsichten zu einer besonders prägenden Phase der Geschichte der Romanistik und allgemeinen Sprachwissenschaft.

Eugenio Coseriu (1921-2002) fue uno de los romanistas y lingüistas más importantes e influyentes del siglo XX. Dejó cientos de manuscritos inéditos y una colección de alrededor de 20.000 cartas de lingüistas y otros intelectuales. El objetivo del proyecto es publicar la correspondencia en línea y presentarla en relación con la historia de la lingüística (especialmente la románica). Por un lado, se tratará de transcribir y publicar en línea una parte de las cartas recibidas por Coseriu junto con cartas mandadas por Coseriu a sus interlocutores. Por otro lado, se analizarán cuatro áreas temáticas relacionadas con las cartas y los manuscritos en el contexto de la lingüística del siglo XX:

• El concepto de norma tal como se presentó en Sistema, norma y habla en 1952, incluido el concepto de lengua estándar y su enseñanza, aspectos discutidos en el manuscrito inédito La corrección idiomática.
• Las cuestiones de pragmática y lingüística del texto en el contexto de una “lingüística integral” que apunta más allá del estructuralismo y aparece esbozada en el estudio “Determinación y entorno” de 1955-56.
• La visión del cambio lingüístico que se presenta en el libro Sincronía, diacronía e historia (1958).
• La cuestión de la variación lingüística y las variedades lingüísticas tal como aparece en La geografía lingüística (1955) y que se retoma y elabora en trabajos posteriores.

Además del acceso al extenso material de las cartas, el proyecto promete nuevos conocimientos científico-históricos sobre una fase particularmente formativa en la historia de las lenguas románicas y la lingüística general.

Summary

Eugenio Coseriu (1921-2002) was one of the most important and influential Romanists and linguists of the 20th century. He left hundreds of unpublished manuscripts and a collection of around 20,000 letters from linguists and other intellectuals. The aim of the project is to publish part of the correspondence online and to contextualize it within the history of linguistics (especially Romance lingusitics).

On the one hand, a selection of the letters to Coseriu (and some letters written Coseriu) will be transcribed and published online. On the other hand, four thematic areas related to the letters and manuscripts will be examined in depth and discussed within the context of the history of linguistics in the 20th century:

• The conception of Norm as presented in Sistema, norma y habla in 1952, including the issue of the standard language and its teaching as discussed in the unpublished manuscript La corrección idiomática.
• The question of pragmatics and text linguistics in the context of an “integral linguistics” that points beyond structuralism and was presented partly in the study “Determinación y entorno” in 1955-56.
• The question of language change outlined in the book Sincronía, diacronía e historia (1958).
• The question of the linguistic variation and language varieties presented in La geografía lingüística and further elaborated in later works.

In addition to the access to the enormous material of the letters, the project promises new historical insights into a particularly formative phase in the history of Romance and General linguistics.
