Unarmed toward a regional and global conversation
A forum to share Costa Rica's journey as a leader in disarmament, active neutrality, and peace education.

The Swiss School of Latin American Studies (SSLAS) – PhD Workshop
The global food crisis is the result of different factors, such as displacements and forced migrations, climate change, political turmoil, and authoritarian governments.
In the Latin American context, hunger is marked by two axes: first, as a social reality that, in terms of the politics of memory and justice, is constantly invisibilized since there are no monuments that remember and recognize the hungry as victims (Orjuela and Parashar); second, as a cultural imaginary and its different layers, from the figure of the cannibal in the colonial imaginary to its critical and ironic revision by cultural anthropophagy (Carlos Jaurégui). In fact, the imaginary, the social, the political, and the historical are intertwined, and through them, certain Latin American productions, whether in the academic or cultural sphere, have approached these issues. From different historical and geopolitical contexts, hunger and images of devouring are present from the figurative production of social realism, through the aesthetics of hunger as a survival strategy in Latin American art (Glauber Rocha), to the contemporary debate on the aestheticization of misery in the visual circuit of global
images (Ivana Bentes).
This SSLAS meeting will also allow us to reflect, from a Latin American perspective, on contemporary global environmental, legal, food, and political issues, taking into account the following questions: How does the debate on hunger in Latin America contribute to thinking about contemporary times? How do research and cultural productions from different areas of knowledge help us analyze, map, and, above all, reflect on such a global impasse, especially its disturbing aspect in the Latin American context and its historical features? How can hunger be considered an extreme sign of the precarization of lives through an intersectional perspective, that is, regarding race, class, and gender?

Jornada latinoamericana del LZZ: "Miradas en femenino"

Lecturas de género: del sujeto del feminismo a los feminismos decoloniales. Aproximaciones, reflexiones, debates
En este workshop se introducirán conceptos, metodologías de trabajo e interrogantes centrales relativas a la teoría de género con miras a identificar problemas, analizarlos e interpretarlos y se discutirán textos paradigmáticos para dicho campo.
Asimismo, y con el objetivo de trazar un horizonte de interrogantes teóricas, críticas y políticas sobre sujetos y subjetividades más allá de las estructuras patriarcales, se reflexionará también sobre algunos de los ejes que definen las búsquedas del pensamiento y el activismo afrofeminista y antirracista en el marco de los estudios de género y los feminismos poscoloniales y decoloniales.
