Bio

Iris Fraueneder (*1990) studied Theatre, Film and Media Studies and Philosophy at the University of Vienna, where she graduated in 2015 with a thesis on the transformations of Masao Adachi’s militant cinema-aesthetics being reflected by Eric Baudelaire’s essayistic documentary film THE ANABASIS... (F 2011) (Bild – Spur – Potential).

Since August 2017 she is research assistant in the interdisciplinary SNSF-project „Contested Amnesia and Dissonant Narratives in the Global South. Post-conflict in Literature, Art, and Emergent Archives“, directed by Prof. Dr. Liliana Gómez-Popescu (SNSF Professorship for Ibero-Romance Literature and Cultural Analysis). Her PhD project „Absent Images“ deals with the unavailability of audiovisual heritage in Palestine and Lebanon, and filmic, curatorial and institutional strategies which confront this absence.

From 2013 to 2016 she has been working at the University of Vienna, assisting Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Büttner (Professor of Film Theory) at the Department of Theatre, Film and Media Studies and the research platform ,Mobile Cultures and Societies. Interdisciplinary Studies on Transnational Formations‘. Her responsibilities included providing teaching support, doing research and administrative work and organizing workshops/conferences.

Besides her studies she did editorial work for SYN Magazine. Since 2012 she has been working for the extra-university research facility Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for History and Society (Projects: „Ephemeral Films. National Socialism in Austria“ – LBIGG/USHMM/ÖFM; „I-Media-Cities“ – EU Horizon 2020). Furthermore she is active as a film curator and co-founder of the curating collective Diskollektiv.
